From Thrift Store “Junk” To HandMade Treasure

I snapped a couple of quick cell phone pics for ya’ today just because I wanted to share my weekend fun!

On Friday I made a visit to a little thrift store here in town and it turned out that they were having Dollar Bag Days; everything that you can fit into a bag for the awesome low price of $1.00! I can pack a lot of stuff into one bag if I need too.

And I did; I packed a bag full of fabrics of all kinds; assorted sizes, colors, prints, textures, and weights. There’s a lot of fun craft projects in one bag of fabric.

After running all those fabrics through the washer, and making them all fresh and clean, I started on my first project out of that bag.

I picked four colors/prints and started cutting them into strips, then I braided the strips and stitched them into a nice flat coil, added a back (also from the trift store fabric), and cut a little fringe around the edges.

Now I have a brand new hand braided throw rug!

Not a bad start from my dollar bag of fun.

Now what shall I make next? Boy I wish I still had a working sewing machine. Hum… I could use some new pot holders….

What kinds of fun things did everyone else find to do this weekend?
