Do you doodle? I do. I think I always have; well at least since I was big enough to hold a crayon.
I remember getting into BIG
trouble once when I was in grade school because I used my trusty #2 pencil to doodle on my desk. Good thing pencil washes off of plastic coated desks. Boy did Mrs. Hall ever yell at me that day!! YIKES!!! Guess I was just not into whatever she was trying to pound into our little heads at the time.
I even had an extra spiral notebook in high school that I carried around just for the purpose of doodling. That way I didn’t draw all over something that I was going to turn in later.
Hum…. I’m sure some psychologist would have something to say about that.
According to our old friend Wikipedia “a doodle is an unfocused drawing made while a person’s attention is otherwise occupied and are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be abstract shapes”. Duh; I knew that.
But I didn’t know that “the word doodle first appeared in the early 17th century to mean a fool or simpleton”. Hum… what does that say about me????
Wait. don’t answer that.
Did you know that “the modern meaning emerged in the 1930s from the verb ‘to dawdle’ which since the seventeenth century has had the meaning of wasting time or being lazy” I guess that kind of fits with the idea of doodling.
I still doodle; In fact I just got off the phone with K and while we were talking I mindlessly picked up the pen that was laying by the keyboard and started scribbling on a little notebook. I have no idea why I doodle; maybe it’s all this creative energy just trying to get out! Ha!!
Ha Ha!!
Or maybe it’s just my lack of focus; I have been accused of lacking focus from time to time.
Please tell me I’m not the only adult that doodles when a pen and paper are handy.
You still doodle – don’t you?
Anybody???
