Weekly Photo Challenge: Pattern

Some time ago I found the Weekly Photo Challenge over at The Daily Post and I had the best intentions of participating in that challenge.

Well…

Ok; so I didn’t stick with that one.

Let’s try it again; shall we?

The current challenge is Pattern. ”Patterns are everywhere. Patterns are sometimes intentional and sometimes accidental. They can be decorative or merely a result of repetition, and often patterns can be in the eye of the beholder to discover them.”

Not feeling the best today I decided that instead of going in search of interesting pattens I’d find one without leaving the comfort of my office chair.

So here you have it…

My pattern.

I found this one in the crocheted jar sleeve that I made to cover an empty pickle jar and turn it into a pretty candle holder.

Did anyone else take the Pattern challenge this week?

Photo Challenge – Backyard Visitors – May 2013

It has been a long while since I have spent an afternoon sitting in the yard watching the birds; but with my new 7D I’m back out there again!

Yesterday this little mourning dove came to visit and he hung around for a good long while. He would sit up on a high branch far away from me, then float down to the ground and take a walk around, then fly back up to his branch and watch for a while, then he’d be back down for another walk….

I’m not sure who was watching who.

Canon EOS 7D – Canon 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
250mm – 1/200 – f/6.3 – ISO 200

Judging by his size I’m going to say he just might be a fairly young bird; he was much smaller than the mourning doves I usually see.

I hope you all take time to enjoy your backyard and capture a shot or two of your visitors; you never know who might stop by.

Photo Challenge – Put Your Camera Down! – On Your Desk

Here’s a fun twist on the “Put Your Camera Down!” challenge.

This time instead of sitting the camera on the ground, which at this moment is cold and muddy, I sat it down on my “new” desk.
[I say "new" instead of new because I picked up this awesome gently used office desk for just $20. It's 5 feet by almost 3' of awesome space, it's solid wood, the drawers lock, and it weighs about half a ton!]

I sat the camera down, turned on the self timer, hit the shutter button, and waited to find out what it saw.

And then I took a second shot the same way.

Do you see the difference between the two shots?

Hey! Don’t laugh! Everyone should have a fun aluminum pinwheel on their desk!! :D

Photo Challenge – 15 Minute Photo Challenge

I found this idea on a video from the awesome folks over at Adorama it’s a 15 Minute Photo Challenge.

The idea is fairly simple…

1 camera

1 lens

1 location

15 minutes to shoot

All you do is grab your camera, attach a lens, go to an interesting location, and shoot for 15 minutes. You’d be surprised how many shots you can get in 15 minutes; they’re just not all going to be good. :(

When your 15 minutes are up head back to the computer to take a look at what you’ve got; do what editing you feel needs done and share your favorite shot!

I didn’t feel up to venturing out the other day so I did this challenge in the near empty room that will become my new space. (at least I hope I get to move all my things in there before the year is over)

After you all guessed the textured paint on the wall with no trouble at all I’m sure you’ll figure out what this shot is just as easily.

I’ll have to try this again in a much more interesting location one day.
