That darn groundhog says “six more weeks of winter”!
UGH! I’m ready for spring!!
I wondered how Groundhog Day got started so I looked it up. According to Wikipedia Groundhog Day began as a Pennsylvania German custom sometime around 1886.
Did you know that it has its origins in ancient European lore when it was a badger or a bear who made the prediction instead of a groundhog?
Apparently it also has similarities to a Christian holiday called Candlemas and a Pagan holiday that celebrates the changing seasons.
Anyway, however it got started, today it is my least favorite holiday because I was really hoping that the groundhog would tell us spring was coming early!
