One of my favorite ways to have a brat or a hot dog is covered with this yummy sauerkraut! The brown sugar and the chili powder give it a sweet smoky taste. YUM (*note to self- clear soda does not photograph well.)
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, sliced
2 cups sauerkraut, drained well (really squeeze it dry!)
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
coarse black pepper to taste
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
In a deep skillet on medium heat melt butter with oil until just barely brown.
Add onion slices and saute to soften.
Stir in sauerkraut and mix well.
Sprinkle with salt,pepper, chili powder, and sugar; mix well.
Heat through and serve hot as a topping for dogs, brats, and sausages.
