Usually when you go walking by the river you hear sounds like rushing water, trees rustling in the wind, geese honking, birds singing … it’s a lively noisy place.
But not the other morning.
It was just about as silent out there as it could get.
The birds were, for the most part, hidden away in the trees. The geese were nowhere to been seen. The trees like statuesque guards along the water’s edge. Hardly a motion.
The water stood still, you didn’t hear it at all until you ventured past the dam; and even then it was just a trickle.
It’s like the river itself could sense another storm coming.
We desperately need the rain. The grasses are beginning to grow right across the river.
