The Combat Air Museum – It’s HOT HOT HOT

I had another opportunity to shoot in some odd lighting situations last week. This time at The Combat Air Museum at Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas. In the summertime it is HOT HOT HOT in those hangers! I recommend this attraction as something to do in the wintertime.

Seriously; I think my camera was even sweating in there! At times I thought it might just melt!

The un-even lighting in the hangers made photographing these old war plans a real challenge. One side of the hanger would be very dark while the other side had bright summer sunshine streaming through the windows. The combination of the two made for some nice contrast with deep shadows and bright highlights.

Once again WP’s media gallery is moving at the speed of frozen molasses so I was not able to add the EXIF info directly to the description box of the images; I’ll type it under the photos for this post.

A little bit of quick information about the museum taken directly from their site…

“Located at the Topeka Regional Airport on Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas, the Combat Air Museum is a non-profit institution dedicated to the creation of facilities and resources for the education of the local and regional communities through the collection, preservation, conservation and exhibition of aircraft, information, artifacts, technology and art associated with the military aviation history of the United States of America.

On exhibit at the museum: 37 aircraft ranging from the WWI period to the present day, Aircraft engines of many sizes and types, An extensive display of artifacts and dioramas, and a growing gallery of military aviation art.”

Now I know very little [if anything at all] about these planes so I’ll just share the photos. However; D has just started a new blog and will be posting about the museum as well. Hopefully he will have a bit of information to share. Check it out sometime at KsuKat.Com. 😀
