Huff ‘n Puff Hot Air Balloon Rally

As promised… here’s a few shots from the second event that we accidently came across while visiting family this past week.

I’ve never seen these big balloons take off before, and I’ve certainly never been up close to them, so when #7 said that they were having a festival at the lake near by we all said “let’s go!”.

It was the annual Huff ‘n Puff Hot Air Balloon Rally held at Lake Shawnee in Topeka, Ks.

The place was crazy crowded, cars lined up for at least a mile just to pull into the parking area, elbow to elbow people all trying to capture that one awesome photo with everything from cell phones and tablets to DSLRs and video cameras, and there was funnel cake!

Everyone loves funnel cake!

D, L, M, and I all stayed on the ground with nephew EK and did our best to take about 500 photos but #7 decided to be more adventurous.  She waited in the never ending line for a chance to go up in one of the balloons. Looked like fun! all but the waiting in line part that is.

I think I need to go back and watch these big colorful balloons take flight again sometime. It was an awesome site; especially after it started to get dark.
