HOT SUNNY HAZY HUMID CROWDED

Yesterday I mentioned that D and I had stopped by the lake over the weekend. Our plan was to walk around and enjoy the view while taking a few photos.

It didn’t go so well.

As we drove into the park D says “do we need to buy a pass?”. I say “no; I’ve stopped by here before and didn’t need one.”

We were just a few steps away from the car when out-of-no-where a park official appears, ticket pad in hand…

“you need to go to the office and buy a pass… a one year pass is cheaper than this ticket.”

UGH!!

After the pass was appropriately placed on the car windshield we tried again to take a few photos.

It was HOT! It was SUNNY! It was HAZY! It was HUMID!

It was CROWDED!!!

The campers, boats, tents, swimmers, RVs, cookouts, hikers, bikers, pick-up trucks, mini-vans, dogs, kids, and everyone else from this part of the state were packed in there like sardines.

So much for capturing lots of good landscape shots that day.

I think another visit is in order. Maybe we’ll head out early for our next trip and stop again.

After all we have our pass now!

Getting There Is Half The Fun

Are you one of those people who think the best way to take a trip is to jump in the car and drive, drive, drive, drive, and then drive some more until till you reach your destination?

Or are you like me; one of those people who think getting there is half the fun. One of those people who like to stop along the way and see things like boats on the lake, the world’s largest ball of twine, or to find out what kinds of treasures await in a small out of the way shop?

I can easily make a 4 hour drive take 6 hours! I’m always ready to stop here or there. Maybe that’s why I travel by myself better than with someone else.

My last adventure to visit family was no exception as I stopped at Wilson Lake for a couple of quick shots, stopped along the roadside to capture an image of an old rusty windmill, stopped at a neat shop filled to the brim with Kansas treasures… and I can’t pass a Hobby Lobby without stopping there!

Yep getting there (slowly but surely) is half the fun! Just check out this lake; could you really drive on by and not stop to smell that fresh air.
