There is, make that was, an old rundown abandoned and forgotten looking hotel in our little town. It was called The Sunflower Hotel.
Back in April I had heard rumors that it was to be torn down and a new building, for our little discount store, is to built in its place.
I thought I’d take a few photos before the old place was torn down and managed to grab just a few one afternoon; saying I’d get back there and take more later.
Well it’s tooooo late now!
I went past the old hotel yesterday while out running errands. It was there, still standing, still waiting for me to grab a few more shots. I hardly even gave it a glance as I hurried by.
Sometime between yesterday afternoon and early this morning the building was reduced to rubble.
D passed by it on his way to work and sent a quick text message that said “The Sunflower hotel is no more.”
I grabbed the camera and headed down there for a few photos of the demolition processes.
Well I missed that!
It was flattened! Apparently sometime during the night or in the very early morning hours it was knocked down to the ground. Only a few piles of rubble were left; waiting to be loaded into the line of idling trucks to be carried away.
Its sad when an old building must be torn down; when it has gone so long past repair that it just can’t be saved.
I don’t know any of the history about The Sunflower Hotel as it was already long into disrepair when we moved here. Maybe a few locals will read this and fill in what history they know in the comments.
It would be nice to learn a little something about the old place.
I don’t have a gallery set up for images of the old hotel yet; hopefully I’ll get that done in the next week or so. When I do I’ll do my best to remember to come back here and add the link!
